Jillian Howell
Originally from small-town Ohio, Jillian moved to South Orange from Brooklyn with her husband, young daughter and Great Dane five years ago. She holds a BA from Kenyon College and a JD from New York Law School. She practiced law for approximately 10 years in New York City, primarily as a law clerk for the Appellate Division, Second Department, where she analyzed cases spanning a wide range of areas of law to make recommendations to the judges as to how the cases should be decided and draft proposed written opinions. However, her second daughter was born shortly before the COVID 19 stay-at-home orders began, and, upon the expiration of her maternity leave during the pandemic, she quit her job to stay home and care for her children. Since leaving the workforce, she has been active in her children’s schools, working in the classroom, volunteering as the class parent for their classes and serving on the PTA Board of Directors.
Jillian is a lifelong avid reader and is attempting to cultivate a similar love of reading in her daughters. The South Orange Public Library has been a tremendous resource in furthering that effort and she and her daughters are enthusiastic patrons of the children’s room and programming. She is convinced that the Library is a crucial unifying, supportive, potentially transformative, and fun resource for the South Orange community. She is delighted to have the opportunity to support the Library’s renovation and expansion and continued improvement via service on the Foundation Board.
