Donor Spotlight
Hannah and Adam Zollman
Adam and Hannah Zollman moved to South Orange with their son Jonah in 2016 and have been supporters of the library ever since. Adam works in cybersecurity. Hannah is the founder and principal of Mission Driven Consulting, where she helps nonprofits (including some in SOMA) build sustainability for their organizations. She is also deeply involved with a number of SOMA-area organizations. Hannah currently serves as board chair for The Co-Lab at South Orange, a member of the South Orange Planning Board, and a board member of South Orange Downtown. She is an emeritus board member of the South Mountain YMCA. Hannah and Adam explained to us why they decided to become lead donors to the library's capital campaign.
What compelled you to support the library?
Supporting SOPL’s Building Connections Campaign is deeply meaningful to us because libraries are one of the few places in the world that welcome everyone — regardless of background or circumstance, and without expectation. We recognize the critical role libraries play in fostering curiosity, learning, and discovery for minds of all ages. They offer not just books, but also spaces where children and adults alike can ask questions, find answers, and feel supported in their quest for knowledge.
We’re thrilled to be part of creating a space where future generations can experience the joy of learning in an inclusive and welcoming environment. This campaign is not just about expanding resources; it's about connecting people — children, families, adults, and communities — and ensuring that the library remains a cornerstone of our society by providing opportunities for growth, exploration, and creativity for all.
What is your family’s favorite part about the library?
Our family’s favorite part about the library is the blend of traditional and digital resources. We love exploring the in-person offerings, but the digital offerings have become a huge part of our routine. Libby has been a game changer, especially for audiobooks, which are our son’s favorite thing. Whether he’s listening to a story during car rides or winding down at night, the library’s access to digital and audiobooks keeps him engaged and excited about reading and discovering new authors and series. Hannah has also become an audiobook fan and now listens to all her book club books through Libby; it’s a perfect way to keep up with reading on the go!
When did you get your first library card and where did you live?
For as long as we can remember, we've held onto our library cards, no matter where we've lived. And for those libraries that let 'alumni' keep their memberships, we're always delighted to still be part of their community. But one of our most cherished memories is taking our son, Jonah, to get his very first library card at SOPL when he was just four. The moment he learned to write his name, it was the first thing he wanted to do. He was already a little explorer, spending hours in the children's section, but getting his very own card — his name on it and all — made him feel like he belonged in a whole new way. The joy on his face was priceless, and it's a joy we’re thrilled that so many other children (and adults!) get to experience, too.
